Re: ADRF6518-EVALZ Board Software Issue

Hi Bill,

You must apply more than the DC supply voltage to get the desired gain of the ADRF6518.  You must also apply DC voltages to the analog gain pins: VGN1, VGN2 and VGN3.  Else those pins will just float and you will have no idea what the analog gains are.  Their functional voltage range is from 0V to 1V (min gain to max. gain, respectively).

Also don't forget to take into account the 9 dB voltage step-up on the input balun and the 9 dB voltage step-down on the output balun.  From an overall gain perspective this might not matter depending on your signal levels, but remember that if you are over-driving the input and/or the output (or any other intermediate stage), the gain will not be what you think it ought to be.  A signal chain analysis where you compute all the signal levels at each stage given the input signal level and the gains of each stage, is very helpful.

Hope this helps,

Joel
